The Wartime Memories Project Volunteers

We are actively seeking new volunteers to help with this website. if you have a good standard of written English, an interest in the two World Wars and a little time to spare online we would appreciate your help. There is no need for any specialist web skills, but some knowledge of the social history of the Two World Wars or a strong interest in learning would be helpful.

We are especially looking for people to assist with writing articles for the website as we are currently undergoing a phase of improvements. We are particularly looking for volunteers with an interest in the war at sea and on the home front for either or both World Wars.

If you are interested in being a volunteer, please complete the form below

Becoming a volunteer is easy, just get in touch and we will provide you with the necessary information.

How can you help?

  • Adding to the website.
    • The Wartime Memories Project receives on average 30 submissions per day. Each one has to be read, the contents edited if necessary, any attached photos resized and then added to the database so that it can be displayed on the appropriate pages of the site. Currently we have a huge backlog, if you could help, it would be much appreciated.
    • There are many regiments, squadrons, ships, voluntary units, factories and hospitals which are not yet included on our website, if you would like to help with basic research and writing short articles on their history to be included on new pages, please get in touch.
    • We also have a large amount of information provided by our visitors which needs to be transcribed and added to our databases via a simple input form, if you'd like to help build our website and have some time to spare, please sign up as a volunteer.

  • Helping others with family research.
    • There are so many unanswered questions about the personal experiences of both world wars. If you have a particular area of interest, you can help others to find out about the experience of their family members and at the same time increase your own knowledge.
    • If you visit any of the archives to undertake research, or are interested in doing so, we have a large list of personal queries on a wide range of war related subjects, from aircraft to ship wrecks to POW camps. We especially need people to visit The National Archives in London and other regional archives to undertake research and write up the findings. If you could help, please register via the form below.

Volunteer Registration is currently closed, please check back later

Due to the number of new volunteers we have had to suspend registration. If you have submitted a volunteer registration since the 11th of November 2021, and have not heard from us yet, we will be in touch with further details as soon as possible. We intend to activate new accounts in small batches. Thanks for your patience.

The free section of The Wartime Memories Project is run by volunteers.

This website is paid for out of our own pockets, library subscriptions and from donations made by visitors. The popularity of the site means that it is far exceeding available resources and we currently have a huge backlog of submissions.

If you are enjoying the site, please consider making a donation, however small to help with the costs of keeping the site running.
