- The Wartime Memories Project are pleased to make the following announcement:
- The Wartime Memories Project has received a grant of £33,800 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for an exciting project, 'Life on the Home Front', to mark the centenary of the Great War in 2014. Further details are available in our new Life on the Home Front section.
- Dates for events relating to this project will be announced in due course.
- Please note this funding is ring fenced for "Life on the Home Front", our main website and activities will continue to be funded by donations and advertising revenue. Continued support from visitors is vital to ensure the future of our website.
12th November to 3rd December 2011:
Time Slides
at Bishop Auckland Town Hall.- An Exhibition of Edwardian and Great War Photographs. Come along to explore your family history in the lead up to the outbreak of the Great War and learn about the impact of the conflict on every day life.
- The Exhibtion Launch will take place at 10.30am on Saturday 12th of November in the Main Hall, Bishop Auckland Town Hall, Market Place, Bishop Auckland, DL14 7NP, Tel 01388 6026610 www.bishopaucklandtownhall.org.uk
If you have special access requirements please let the Town Hall staff know if advance so that they can make arrangements.
Our Family History Day runs from 11am until 4pm on the 12th of November and will include talks, film shows and assistance with tracing your ancestors.
Please bring along your family photographs from the Great War and learn how to discover their story.
- The Exhibition is open, Monday to Friday - 10.00am till 4.00pm, Saturday - 9.00am till 4.00pm from the 12th of November until 3rd of December at the McGuinness Gallery, Bishop Auckland Town Hall. Admittance is free
There will be another Family History Day on Saturday 3rd of December 11am - 3pm offering further assistance, please bring your research with you.
- Family History research leaflets will be available to record your discoveries, please collect one from Bishop Auckland Town Hall or you can download and print the Family History leaflet
- When you have discovered the story of your relative, please add their detailsvia this form, so that their service can be remembered. The Timeslides event is now over, but you can still Vist our TimeSlides web pages

- 1st of September 2024 marks 25 years since the launch of the Wartime Memories Project. Thanks to everyone who has supported us over this time.

The free to access section of The Wartime Memories Project website is run by volunteers and funded by donations from our visitors.If the information here has been helpful or you have enjoyed reaching the stories please conside making a donation, no matter how small, would be much appreciated, annually we need to raise enough funds to pay for our web hosting or this site will vanish from the web.

Please note we currently have a massive backlog of submitted material, our volunteers are working through this as quickly as possible and all names, stories and photos will be added to the site. If you have already submitted a story to the site and your UID reference number is higher than 265120 your submission is still in the queue, please do not resubmit.
Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to the Great War. If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Please get in touch for the postal address, do not sent them to our PO Box as packages are not accepted.

Includes full board accomodation, lectures and practical tutorials amongst the airfields of Yorkshire or Lincolnshire.
Cost will be in the region of £600 per person.

This website is paid for out of our own pockets, library subscriptions and from donations made by visitors. The popularity of the site means that it is far exceeding available resources and we currently have a huge backlog of submissions.
