No. 139 Squadron RoyalFlying Corps
No. 139 Squadron was formed as a fighter-reconnaissance squadron on 3 July 1918 at Villaverla in Italy. It was previously 'Z' Flight fo 34 Squadron, and was equipped with Bristol F2b fighter aircraft. It was relocated to Arcade aerodrome in northern Italy to provide fighter patrols, bomber escorts and reconnaissance. Between formation and the Armistice the Squadron claimed the destruction of 27 enemy aircraft and a further seven were classified as “probably destroyed”.

Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to the Great War. If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Please get in touch for the postal address, do not sent them to our PO Box as packages are not accepted.

Cyril Jackson was the son of Alfred Howard Jackson of Dubarry Estate, Pollibetta, Coorg, India. He was 20 when his plane was shot down over Italy. He is buried in the Romagnano Communal Cemetery in Italy.s flynn

William Voster was the Son of Hendrik Adriaan Vorster and Anna Susanna Vorster of Vereeniging, Transvaal, South Africa. He was 24 when his plane was shot down. He is buried in the Mattarello Communal Cemetery in Italy.S Flynn

Herbert Frow was the son of George Holyoake Frow and Edwina Frow of 24 Christchurch Rd., Tulse Hill, London. He was 19 when he was shot down by a German plane and is buried in the Mattarello Communal Cemetery in Italy.S Flynn
