204925Gnr. Leonard Reth Dawe 31st Heavy Battery Royal Garrison Artillery (d.21st Oct 1917)
Leonard Dawe was my cousin and I have a copy of the notification of death sent to his widow but I cannot read where the death occurred other than at "St John's Hospital....???" Would records show where this hospital was situated and where he was buried please?Editors note: Leonard is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, which is situated to the north of the town of Etaples on the coast of Northern France not far from Boulogne. There were a number of hospitals around the town and it is very likely that St John's Hospital was the St. John Ambulance Brigade Hospital which was at Etaples. The most likely scenario is that Leonard was injured and evacuated from the front line to the hospital where he died of his wounds.
