He is remembered on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Hainaut, Belgium.
However the date of death on the Commonwealth War Graves site is the 6th October 1916.
He was the husband of Emeline Louise Gray (formerly Sparham), of 3 Britannia Bank, North Shields.
Additional Information: | William was my great grandfather. The 25th August 1915, stated above as his reported date of death, is I believe the date his battalion first embarked for France and he was indeed killed in action during the battle of the Somme on 6th October 1916. He was likely killed by heavy artillery fire during a battle to capture the village of Le Sars at around 10 pm on the night of the 6th when a total of 10 men in his battalion were killed and 18 wounded.Michael Morley
