Ernest joined the 16th (Service) Battalion Rifle Brigade, C Company as a Private and was killed on the 3rd of September 1916 aged 30 years and is burried in grave V.F.37 Ancre British Cemetary, at Beaumont Hamel. The records note he was the son of Edward and Sarah Laflin of Camden Town, husband of Elizabeth A Laflin (nee King) of 1a Glenwood Road Harringey.
This address was also the address of Elizabeth's sister Ada Mary Board and her husband John Henry Board. The two sisters lived together throughout the First World War.
