Sgt. Edward Francis Belcher
British Army East Surrey Regiment
(d.31st Mar 1918)
Edward Belcher was my Paternal Grandfather. His son, my Father, was 11 months old on 31 March 1918, when he died in the Military Hospital at Etaple sur Mer, France. He was a regular soldier who, I believe, enlisted in 1908.
He is buried in the Military Cemetary at Etaple in France, in plot XXXIII,IIIB, which I managed to visit last year. His wife, Adeline, my grandmother, married again, and had 4 more children, the youngest of whom is still alive.
My Father, who died in 2010, aged 93, spent three and a half years as a Japanese POW just outside Hiroshima.
I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of my predecessors.
