Pte. Angus Booth
British Army 5th Battalion Duke of Wellington 1st
from:Halifax
(d.3 Sept 1916)
Angus Booth was the second son to William Henry and Annie Booth of Halifax, West Yorkshire. He had been a carter in the local iron foundry before enlisting with The Duke Of Wellington's West Riding Regiment.
He was a private and was 26 when he fought in the Battle of the Somme.
He was killed in action, as were so many, leaving a widow Mabeth to moarn.
OK, so he wasn't anyone special, no bravery medals or vast military career to boast about. He is one of my family though and I think he was brave and gave his life so we may live free.
