Hugh Walton Fathers, Private 21/243, enlisted at South Shield and served in the 15th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. He was age 20 when he died on 31st March 1918. His medal card shows the award of the War and Victory Medals. He is remembered at the Jarrow Library and his Grave/Memorial Referenceis at Pozieres Memorial. Panel 68 to 72.
Hugh was the son of Richard and Jane Fathers (nee Walton) of 3 Lake Terrace, East Jarrow. He was born at Wheatley, Durham.
In the 1911 Census, the family lived at 3 Lake Terrace, East Jarrow, with head of family Richard Fathers age 39 Electrical Engineer at Chemical Manufacturers born Trimdon Grange, Durham. Jane Fathers his wife age 36 born Shildon, Durham. They have three children, Hugh Walton Fathers son age 13. George Wilfred Fathers son age 11 born Wylam, Northumberland. David Fathers son age 9 born Sunderland.
