George Thornton Nellist enlisted in the 15th Battalion the Durham Light Infantry and died on the 22nd November 1917 aged 23.
He was born at Jarrow in 1894, the son of George Thornton Nellist and Dorothy E. Nellist (nee Pearson) of Jarrow.
In the 1911 census he is age 17 the second of 5 sons and two daughters.
He is working as a driver in the coal mine.
He is remembered on the Palmer Cenotaph Jarrow (brass plaque west face) and is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery.
