Pte. Michael Conway

Michael Conway was born in Co Galway and lived in Hebburn, where he worked at the Hebburn Shipyard. He enlisted in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Michael is buried in Salonika (Lembet Road) Military Cemetery. He is commemorated on the Palmer Cenotaph (south face) Jarrow.

Additional Information:

Michael Conway was born in New Village, Toomard in north County Galway. He emigrated to the north-east of England where he found work in the shipyards. Following conscription he chose to join his fellow Galwegians in the Connaught Rangers adn was shipped to Gallopilli before removal to Greece. He died of his wounds on 27 December 1915. Remembered by his family in Galway, the United Kingdom and in the United States.
