John R Pearce, Private 22/1245, enlisted at Newcastle and served in the 22nd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion, the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action at the Somme, aged 18, on the 1st July 1916. He is remembered at St Paul's Church, Jarrow and the Thiepval Memorial.
His medal card shows the award of the British War and Victory Medals.
John was born at Jarrow, son of Daniel and Eliza Pearce of 26 Franklin Street Jarrow. In the 1911 census John was 13 and still at school. His older brother Daniel (then 15) also lost his life later in the war (1918).
