Robert William Smith McBain was serving as a Driver at the
Signal Depot in Fenny Stratford with the Royal Engineers when he died on 15th December 1916. He was aged 24.
Born in Hebburn in 1892 he was the son of John and Mary McBain.
He enlisted in Jarrow. On the 1911 census, Robert William Smith McBain age 19 is a Driver with the 26th Field Company Royal Engineers at the Borden Camp in Hampshire.
Robert died in Newcastle and is buried in Hebburn Cemetery.
He is commemorated on the Palmer Cenotaph (south face) Jarrow.
