Joseph McCann served with the 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards, he was aged 26 when he died on 20th September 1914. Born in Jarrow he was the son of Matthew and Sarah Ann McCann. On the 1911 census he is recorded as Joseph McCann age 23 Soldier on leave from 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards staying with his older brother James Henry McCann and family at 5 Gladstone Street, Hebburn.
He had enlisted in South Shields.
Joseph is buried in Vailly British Cemetery and is commemorated on the Palmer Cenotaph (west face) Jarrow.
