216520 Pte. Edward McKee British Army 9th Btn. Yorkshire Regiment (d.10th Oct 1916) Edward McKee served with the 9th Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment and died on the 10th October 1916. He is remembered at St. Paul's Church and on the Thiepval Memorial Pier . His medal card records the award of the 1915 Star, War and Victory Medals.
Edward was born in Hebburn 1891, son of Edward and Janet McKee nee Jardine of Jarrow. He was married to Catherine Garrity (formerly McKee nee McGee) of 31 Shamrock Street, Hebburn. In the 1911 census the family is living at 22 Wilberforce, Jarrow with Edward(60) a copperworks labourer and his wife of 23 years Janet(52). They had 7 children but only 3 survived. Edward(20) a brass core maker in copper tube works, Thomas James Jardine(17)a grocers assistant and Robert Jardine(14) a grocers apprentice.
Additional Information: | Edward had one child, a son who was named after him. He was born on the 28/02/16. It is unclear as to whether Edward ever saw his son, however, from the remembered testimony of relatives, it appears that sadly, this was the case.Melanie McClure
