216603 Mjr. St.John Adcock British Army 3rd Btn. Leinster Regiment from:Blackrock, Co. Dublin (d.9th May 1915) Major St John Adcock served with the 3rd Battalion, the Leinster Regiment and was attached to the 1st Battalion the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment
He was killed in action age 45 on the 9th May 1915 at the Battle of Aubers Ridge. He is remembered on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
He was the son of Mrs. S. C. Adcock and St. John Adcock, of "Loughnavale," Strand Rd., Merrion, Co. Dublin; husband of Ethel Maud Adcock, of 7, Waltham Terrace, Blackrock, Co. Dublin.
He had previously served in the Anglo-Boer War.
Additional Information: | St John Adcock married Ethel Maud Acklom in 1809 and had a daughter, Irene Elinor Maud St.John Adcock, born November 1915, six months after he was killed in action while leading his men at Rue du Bois, Richebourg, St. Vaast. His body was never found.
He was born 24 May 1867 and initially joined the Longford Horse in 1901 before proceeding to South Africa.
St John was one of 9 children of St John Adcock and Susan Charlotte Kennedy (who married in Dundald, Co Louth, Ireland) and an elder brother, Robert James Adcock was a Captain in the Royal Irish Riffles (making his will in Beggars Bush Barracks). George Thompson
