James Maynard enlisted at Camberwell and served with the 7th Battalion, Rifle Brigade. We have no a Army records as they appear to have been among the 'burnt records'. He is laid to rest in Lijssenhoek Military cemetery, killed in action on 6th December 1917. You will also find him listed on the War memorial at Waterloo station in London as he was employed by the London & South Western Railway Company as a bridge painter before enlistment.
James was my Great Grandad, He died aged 26 years leaving a young wife also aged 26 and two young children, my Nan aged four years old and her younger brother aged 18 months.
According to the medal cards he was awarded the Victory Medal but we have no further information or photographs.
