220023 Pte. John Samuel Hudson British Army Remounts Army Service Corps from:Beeston, Notts My grandfather John Hudson joined base 3 depot at Shirehampton on 14th of March 1915 serving with the Army Service Corps Remounts and he embarked to France on 18th March 1915. He was in a gas attack & was temporarily blinded, as reported in the Beeston & West Notts Gazette & Echo, he was sent home on 10th June 1915, arriving on the 11th. He deserted from hospital on 12th September 1915 and unfortunately the remainder of the service report is too faint to read. The story he told the family was that, still wearing hospital blues, he hid under a train seat to get home.
