220636 Pte. Edgar William Hadley British Army 26th (Bankers) Btn. Royal Fusiliers from:24 Oval Road, Erdington, Birmingham (d.4th Oct 1916) Edgar Hadley was my Great Uncle who served in the 26th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers. Edgar was born on the 9th January 1896 and he died during the Battle of the Somme sometime between 4th October and 5th November 1916 aged just 20 years old. It is most probable that he died at the Battle of Transloy Ridge. The documentation from the war graves commission lists a number of different dates for his death during the Autumn of 1916. He was the elder son of Clara and the late William Reece Hadley from Erdington in Birmingham. His Mother had the words "Thy will be done" placed on his gravestone which is situated at the AIF Burial Ground, Grass Lane, Flers.
