Cpl. William Joseph Donnan

William Joseph Donnan, aged 19 years, enlisted in the Manchester Regiment on 4th September 1914. In February 1916, he was wounded in the face by an accidental discharge of a rifle when he was in the tranches, cleaning his rifle. There was a full hearing at which he was exonerated and the cause was established as accidental discharge.
Following his return to duty from hospitalisation, he was promoted to Corporal and posted to the 2/9th Battalion.
Joe was killed in action at the attack on Poelcappelle which was a part of the third Battle of Ypres.
He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
