Pte. William Thomas Fielding
British Army 7th Battalion East Lancashire Regiment
from:Accrington
(d.19th Oct 1916)
William Fielding was quite old for a serving private during the Great War (40 plus).
He was wounded on May 28th 1916. He returned to service not long afterwards only to be mortally wounded and died on 19th of October 1916, we think in a Boulogne hospital. He is buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
We assume that he was wounded during the Somme Offensive. We found a report in The Accrington Observer.
We also know that he trained on Cannock Chase which coincidentally turned out to be a stone's throw from the home of his grandaughter and great-grandchildren.
We have his medals and a couple of photographs. We would like to know more about him and his family.
