223062 Pte. Robert Tumilson British Army 8th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles from:Belfast I don't know too much about Bobby Tumilson's war service except that he was at the Somme. The only other evidence I have is a birth certificate stamped "Infantry Barracks, Islandbridge, Dublin, 16 May 1916". He was born in January 1899 and died in March 1986. He was not wounded during the war and received the usual three medals - Pip, Squeak and Wilfred. He later served in the RIC and, after partition, in the RUC. In later life he was a school caretaker. Additional Information: | Robert is a relation of mine. There was an article in the Belfast Telegraph 3rs May 1948 featuring him. Caretaker of the Orangefield PE School, Belfast, he had discovered a meteorological balloon, sent up from Middlesex, England, which had burst and landed in the school grounds. I have a record of him serving in the 17th Royal Irish Rifles, during WW1.
