Another Buiith Hero FALLS. AT HIS POST.  The sad news reached Mrs Painter, Castle Cottages, Builth Wells, on Friday, that her son Corporal George H Painter, of the 2nd Border Regi- ment, had been killed in action. Corporal Painter joined about the second month after the outbreak of hostilities, and was then only 18 years of age. Prior to his fatal wound, he had been wounded twice-once in the knee and a second time in the foot. He had been in Nottingham Military Hospital. The last letter received from him arrived about, three weeks ago, and in this he explained that he was quite well, except for the usual hard-ships . "A Brave Boy." Private J. Kennedy, "A" Platoon, Grenade 2nd Border Regiment, writing to Mrs Painter, Under date 24th ult., says: " Your son Georgi was in my platoon, and was corporal-in-charge of the section to which I belong. He was a brave boy and never took us where he would not go himself. We had been in the trenches three days when it was our turn for the firing line. We were sub-jected to a terrible bombardment on April 19th, and In this your son met his death while at his post. He was hit on the left side just under the heart, he only lived a few minutes. All he spoke was 'Mother, mother," and he died with those words on his lips. He did not suffer from any pain. We laid George in the trench parapet, and prayed that you would take the great loss to heart as lightly as Possible. We have had a big loss in our regiment, and. there are only three left  out of Georgie's section. We feel lost without him. Sympathising With you in your great loss, I remain, yours etc., Private J. Kennedy, 4809, "A" Platoon, Grenade Company 2nd Border Regiment. B.E.F. France." The second time Corporal Painter was wounded he Was buried alive, and in one of his letters he observed that they failed to find one of the officers, while he himself was buried for a day, and slept in inches of water. His many Builth friends will remember Corporal Painter who before joining the forces was a gardener at Caerberis. Later he was employed in the North of England, and there joined tho Border Regiment. Prior to leaving for France he had been stationed at Carlisle, Shoeburyness, and Southend.
