232003 Pte. Robert McKeown British Army 9th Btn. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers from:Gavarghy, Co Tyrone (d.25th June 1917) I don't know a lot about Robert McKeown, but he is my great uncle and had an older brother in the 12th Btn. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers who died six weeks after Robert. Additional Information: | He served with his 2 older brothers , William the oldest , in the 9th Battalion , who survived the war (my Grandfather) and his older brother Thomas in the 11th Battalion who was killed on the 16th of August 1917. Robert is buried in Somer farm cemetery and Thomas in the New Irish Farm cemetery.Malcolm Stewart

| Robert and Thomas were farmer's sons from Garvaghy near Ballygawley. Robert, the youngest enlisted first in the 9thB Royal lnniskillings (The Tyrones) He was killed at Ypres in the lull between Messines and Passchendaele. Thomas enlisted in 1916 in the 11thB and was killed at Langemarck, part of the bigger Passchendaele battle where a lot of Tyrone men died. Robert's service number is 25705 and Thomas 29811.
