234109 Pte James Taylor British Army 57th Btn. Machine Gun Corps from:North Shields (d.8th Oct 1918) Jim joined up first with the Northumberland Fusiliers, but at some point ended up in 57th MGC. He was married, a father of a son James born October 1916. Before the war he was employed at Cookson's in North Shields. Jim was one of 6 sons of James and Elizabeth (Duffy) Taylor. The eldest, John Francis (Frank), died at the Somme on July 1 1916. The youngest, Ben, died at home 3 days after Frank. The remaining 3 sons all emigrated to Canada after the war, 2 dying within about a decade of the war's end. Jim was my great uncle. Given the common last name I have not yet confirmed war records of 2 of his brothers, but it is possible at least one (Thomas William) was also in a MGC.
