Pte. Benjamin West

Pte Benjamin West, who was born at the Moravian Mission Station Genadendal in South Africa, was a tailor by profession who worked for Mr J Browning of Worcester in South Africa when he joined the army.
He was wounded during May 1917 and spent May and June in the hospital in B.I Ward, South African Hospital, Richmond, Surrey.
Between the 18th and 20th March 1918 he was gassed and sent to 9 General Lake Side Hospital near Rouen. After he was seriously wounded, he was admitted to the 18th C.C.S. in France on 19th July 1918 and died at 1.50 in the morning of 7th August 1918. He was buried at Longuenesse Souvenir Cemeterey, St Omer.
