Pte. Walter Stanley Jordan
British Army East Kent Regiment
Piecing together details of my grandfather Walter Jordan's service with the East Kent Regiment, he served in India, where he was shot in the shoulder and returned to England to recover. While waiting transport, he trained as a groundsman. He landed at Basra and moved up to Baghdad where he used his groundsman skills to grow food for the city.
He returned to Margate and got a job as a keeper at a country estate. The tied cottage is now known as Jordan Cottage. My mother and her six elder siblings were born there, they moved to Filton, Bristol during WW2 and Walter died in 1975.
I remember that every Sunday, he would polish his Christmas 1914 brass tin, along with his three WW1 medals and his WW2 Home Defence Medal.
