Joseph Wheatley, son of Mrs. L Wheatley, 52 Dunstable Street, Ampthill, Bedfordshire was born and lived in Ampthill. He enlisted in Wolverhampton and served with 1st Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 7th of November 1914 in Flanders aged 40 years. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. He is remembered on both The War Memorial and The Alamada, St. Andrews Church, Ampthill.
