William Deacon was born on the 21st May 1894 in Nuneaton, son of George & Elizabeth Deacon of 2 Market Place, Nuneaton. He was educated at Bedford Modern School, possibly as a boarder, and later trained as a Dentists Assistant.
On the 21st August 1914 he enlisted at Nuneaton with the 7th Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps. He was killed in action on the 26th of September 1917 age 23 years at Ypres. He is buried in Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, Belgium.
A pupil of Bedford Modern School 1908-09, he is commemorated on the SchoolWar Memorial, which was unveiled in 1923 and in the Roll of Honour, published in The Eagle, December 1923. Information courtesy of www.roll-of-honour.com
