Pte. Thomas "Pops" Munro MM.
British Army 1st Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders

Thomas Munro, began the war with 3rd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and was drafted into the 1st Battalion in December 1914
He reached the Western Front in January 1915 and fought at 2nd Battle of Ypres with 1st Battalion and saw Colin Mitchell, Sr in action then with the Highland Light Infantry. Mitchell won a battlefield commission to captain with Argylls and his first MC (Mitchell would win 2 in WW1)
Thomas served at Salonika and the Struma Valley from 1916 to 1918
and after the Armistice was stationed at Constantinople.
I have several photos from 1914, 1915, 1917 and 1919. Later he emigrated to America and became a naturalized US citizen. During 1937-1945 he worked in ship construction (naval ships and liberty ships). He retired from Bethlehem Steel in the 1950's. I knew him as boy and my father, uncle and older cousins knew him very well
