251806 Pte. Walter Hamblin British Army 8th Battalion Border Regiment from:Castle Acre (d.9th July 1916) Walter Hamblin was born in Barnett (sic) Norfolk and lived at Castle Acre.
He enlisted in Norwich with the Norfolk Regiment and transferred to the 8th Battalion Border Regiment. He died on 9th of July 1916 and is buried in Le Cateau Military Cemetery in France.
Additional Information: | Walter was born in Barney Norfolk, he had a wife. two sons, two daughters and a stepson. He was injured with shrapnel wounds from ankles to thighs on 3rd/4th July 1916 in Aveluy Wood. He died on a red cross train as a pow bound for Berlin and was removed from the train as they reached Le Cateau. He was given an overdose of Morphine by a German Doctor, a letter to this affect is in the national archive. His younger Brother Norman Hamblin was also killed in the conflict.Sally Fletcher
