Frank Bridgewater was born in Middlesbrough in the July-September quarter of 1897.
He enlisted on 2nd of September 1914 in Whitley Bay, when he was 16 or just 17 years old but he said his age was 19 years and 1 month because government policy was that you had to be 18 to sign up and 19 to fight overseas.
On the same day he had his medical and was assigned to the 7th Battalion, Border Regiment. He was in France on 7th of July 1915.
He was promoted to Lance Corporal (unpaid) on 3rd of March 1917 and was killed seven weeks later in the Second Battle of the Scarpe, part of the fighting around Arras where his death is commemorated.
He is also remembered on the memorials in Middlesbrough and Stockton-on-Tees.
