A/Sjt. John Rumney
British Army 5th Btn Border Regiment

John Rumney signed up to the 5th Battalion Border Regiment on 12th of September 1914, two days ahead of his two younger brothers, Joseph and Fred.
John was promoted to Acting Sergeant on 16th of May 1916. He was poisoned by gas on 24th of May 1915 and taken via No 2 Casualty Clearing Station at Bailleul, and then on to Le Touquet Field hospital, and finally evacuated to Brighton on 28th May.
He was transferred to a reserve regiment on 25th of July 1916, and was recalled to the 4th Battalion Border Regiment on 22nd of June 1917.
He was finally discharged 14th of September 1918.
