A/Cpl Joseph Brookes
British Army 9th Btn. Royal Dublin Fusiliers
from:Chalmers St., Greenock, Scotland
(d.28th Sep 1918 )
The informal will of Acting Corporal Joseph Brookes is one of the 9000 wills of Irish soldiers who died during the Great War. Joseph had left all his property to his daughter who lived at Greenock. His death was caused by a cerebral tumour. Joseph was buried at Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey UK. The spelling of his name on the official Accounts 4 documents, the War Office Department who administered soldiers wills is spelt Brooks. However Joseph signed his will as Brookes with an e. This is also how his name is spelt on his CWGC stone at Brookwood.
He died at the No 2 General Hospital, Chelsea London.
