Cpl. Albert Jackson
British Army 33rd Brigade Royal Field Artillery
from:Walthamstow
Albert Jackson was my grandfather, my mother's father. Born in 1888, he joined the army as a boy soldier in about 1902 and then left again shortly before the outbreak of WW1. He was obliged to re-enlist as a reservist and went to France and Belgium, serving throughout the war. He was gassed but fortunately not seriously.
He married my grandmother on Christmas Day 1918. I have very few of his possessions but I do have his medals, his 1914 Christmas box from Princess Mary, and some discharge papers.
He moved to Hornsey (now Haringay) after the war and lived there for the rest of his life, working for the local council, until his death in 1959.
