Dvr. James Valentine Adamson
British Army XLV Brigade Royal Field Artillery
from:Perthshire, Scotland
My paternal grandfather was James Adamson, a driver with XLV Brigade RFA.
Born in Govan, Scotland, in March 1891, his medals include the 1914 Star without the clasp, which suggests he was not under gunfire during the Great War before at least the end of November 1914. I believe he served in India but I am unsure whether this was before or after WWI. In later years, he was a pig farmer.
He had a younger brother Andrew, who was killed in 1917. Family members have suggested that he too served with the RFA, but the only likely J Adamson seems to be the wrong one, and the dates don't match up. My research suggests he served with the Royal Engineers on a Cable Section.
