Pte. Thomas Clarkson
British Army 9th Btn. Durham Light Infantry
from:Muker
(d.30th April 1917)
Tom Clarkson was not a conscientious objector but did not want to kill anyone. He still went to war when called up and first joined Yorkshire Regiment. He was then transferred to 9th Durham Light Infantry.
He was severely wounded within 6 hours of going to the front line for the first time. Part of his head was shot away. He was transferred back to London and his brother Jack (my great grandfather) visited him but he died on 30th of April 1917. His body was returned to his home and he is buried in Muker Churchyard near to his parents.
