Capt. Gervas Charles Wells-Cole
British Army 138th Field Ambulance Royal Army Medical Corps
from:Lincoln
Gervas Wells-Cole was my grandfather. He qualified as a doctor in 1914 and then joined the RAMC in 1915. He served on the Western Front, to my knowledge in the Ypres area in 1916/1917. During this time he befriended Reverend Tubby Clayton of Talbot House, Poperinge and the founder of Toc H. They remained friends for the rest of their lives. At some point my Grandfather was invalided back to the UK with pleurisy. According to his obituary, he served in 138th Field Ambulance and was demobbed in 1919.
During his working life, he was a General Practitioner/Surgeon. Between 1935 and 1971 he was also Coroner for the City of Lincoln.
He died in 1974.
