Pte, Fred Green

British Army 8th Btn. Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry

from:Sheffield

(d.9th Jun 1917)

Fred Green was my great uncle and died on the 9th of June 1917 and is buried in Lijssenhoek Military Cemetery. His older brother William died near Ypres on 23rd of October 23 as a Lance Corporal member of the Military Police Corps. He is buried in the Minty Farm Cemetery. Both men were married. Modern family history believes a third brother was also killed on the Somme, but I am unable to establish this as a fact. There were 8 brothers in total and the only one I can prove survived the war was my Grandfather Sydney Green, but I am unable to establish whether he served in the military, but as he was born in 1891 I believe he must have.
