Dvr. Charles Simmonds
British Army 271 Bde. A Bty Royal Field Artillery
This is a picture of my great uncle Charles Simmonds
taken in 1915, when he was 20 years of age. He was a driver in the The 54th (East Anglian)
Division.
The Divisional Artillery remained in England when the
Division moved to Gallipoli. It moved independently to
France in November 1915 coming under the command of
33rd Division. Officers and men were attached to the
Divisional Artillery of the 2nd, 7th and 12th
Divisions. It moved to Egypt and rejoined the Division
in Egypt in February 1916.
I don't know too much about him, other than he lived
to a ripe old age.
