The Wartime Memories Project website was launched in 1999 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War and has been free to access for the last 15 years. As we commemorate the 70th anniversary of VE Day, we are launching a new feature to allow access to records which have previously been held in our offline archive.
Whilst we are committed to making information shared by our visitors freely available, we need to meet the costs associated with running the project and the website. As advertising revenue and donations are not meeting these costs. To make up at least some of this shortfall, the subscription area of the site gives access to a range of items previously held in our offline archive.
Library membership includes access to: records of incidents during the two world wars, personal accounts, letters, diaries, documents and photographs as well as information on Officers of the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. Please note, we do not hold service records for individuals, but many people are mentioned by name in the documents in our library and many contain lists of names and the units in which they served. Due to the volume of material held, we regret we are unable to check if an individual is named in one of our documents.
Items in our collection are currently being digitized and as our library is still under construction, we have a special introductory offer.
