Pte. George Henry Hall 5th Btn. Royal Norfolk Regiment
My great uncle, George Hall, was born in Cwmbran, South Wales and was one of 9 or 10 siblings who were serving in the forces during WW2. He enlisted in 1929, and was posted/stationed in Dereham, Norfolk, where he married Ivy E Ashman in 1935.When war broke out, he was with the 5th Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment and, after the Japanese entered the war in December 1941, they were transported overseas to Singapore to defend the Island. Unfortunately, it was overrun and after it fell in February 1942 he became a POW in Thailand, where he spent the rest of the war until liberated in late August 1945. Within that time, he was first a prisoner at the infamous Changi Jail POW camp, then at various others, whilst being forced to work on the Death Railway in terrible conditions.
From his liberation, the family are unsure of what become of him, and I would like find out more about him and his life before, during and after the war, if possible, so if anybody knew him, the Battalion, where he lived etc., or could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Unfortunately, I haven't got a photo of him or the Battalion. Thanks in advance.
