7th Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment



   7th Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment was a 2nd Line Territorial unit formed in May 1939, they served with 53rd Brigade, part of the 18th Division. They transferred to 51st (Highland) Division and saw action in France in 1940, most the battalion was taken prisoner of war. Those who had returned to the UK reformed and the 7th Norfolks served on Home Defence duties. In autumn 1942, the battalion joined 176th Brigade, 59th (Staffordshire) Division and saw action in Normandy suffering heavy casualties and were disbanded in August 1944.

Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home.

If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Pte. Christopher Charles McEvoy 7th Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment (d.12th Oct 1944)

Christopher McEvoy was the son of the playwright Charles Alfred McEvoy, brother of the writer Patrick A. McEvoy, and nephew of the artist Ambrose McEvoy. Married to the former Joan Margaret Snell in 1942. He illustrated the book written by his brother, "The Gorse and the Briar" for publication in 1938. His brother served as an engineering officer in the Merchant Navy, and was lost in 1941 when his ship was torpedoed.

In October 1944, he participated in the Battle of Overloon, Netherlands, during which he was killed. His body now rests in the Mook War Cemetery.

Peter Reynolds is buried at St Valery-en-Caux Cemetery in France.

William Ruddock is buried in theBayeux War Cemetery.

Pte. Arthur Herbert Howell 7th Btn. Royal Norfolk Regiment (d.12th June 1940)

Arthur Howell was my half-brother on my father's side. I was just 3 years old in June 1940 when Arthur was killed in the retreat from Dunkirk, so I hardly knew him. Arthur's grave is in the Ste. Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, Seine Maritime.

Does anyone remember him, or knew of him? I would be glad to hear from them.
