Lance Sgt. Sidney Hare 2nd Btn. North Staffordshire Rgt.
After leaving the Merchant Navy where my dad was serving on the Blue Star Line to South America, he joined the East Surrey regiment before being transfered to the North Staffs. He saw action in North Africa (First Army) and Italy (Sicily and Anzio). He was captured at Anzio after heavy hand-to-hand fighting. The battalion had over 600 men killed in action. My father was eventually marched and transported to the prisoner-of-war camp Stalag 357. At the end of the war he served in several other almalgamated regiments before coming back home to Custom House, Canning Town, London.Roy Hare

Pte. William Arthur Marston 2nd Btn. North Staffordshire Regiment
My Granddad Bill Marston, served originally in the East Surrey Regiment before being transferred over too the 2nd Battalion of the North Staffordshires. He was a Bren Gunner. I was told he had been shot a couple of times in action and on the one occasion blown up by a land mine, he had been left for dead until his comrade turned his knife on the medical orderly and demanded they take him, luckily he survived. He went on to serve in Palestine and was demobbed in 1947 or 48.If anybody knows any veterans who may of known him or had mentioned him it would be nice to know.

Pte. Reginald Wareham 2nd Btn. North Staffordshire Regiment
Reg Wareham was my great uncle and served with the North Staffs in Northern Ireland and then as part of the BEF in France. I am afraid that I do not know a lot about his story but he is said to have been so deeply affected by his evacuation from Dunkirk that for years after he would duck for cover whenever he heard the sound of a plane.Mark Wareham
Frank Whiting 2nd Btn. North Staffordshire Regiment
My Dad, Frank Whiting served with the North Staffs but was invalided out of the Anzio landings with shrapnel behind his ear. He served in North Africa and Palestine. He never liked to talk of his war experiences as it had a profound effect on him. I would like to know more about the experiences that so affected his later life.Ken Whiting
