5th Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery
5th Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery was made up of 15th/17th and 20th/21st Batteries. When war broke out they were mobilized in Edinburgh and proceeded to France as part of I Corps with the BEF. They were evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk and reorganised in the UK, becoming part of of Eastern Command in the autumn of 1940. In late 1941 and early 1942 they were stationed at Sevenoaks and joined 1st Army Group RA on its formation on 24th of August 1942 in Scotland. They saw action in North Africa and fought through the Italian Campaign until the end of the war.

Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home.If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes.

Gnr. John Wilfred Marshall 5th Medium Royal Artillery
We have recently discovered letters from my brother John to the family while he was serving in the Second World War in Milan, Lake Como, Riccione and on the Austrian border.He tells us of an incident while being transported back to Europe of the boat catching fire in the English Channel while being surrounded by about 50 mines. The letters are also full of good times he had with his colleagues and full of fondness towards his family,

William John Papworth, 5th Royal Artillery. During WW2 this Australian soldier fought for our country. He died in the Battle of Salerno.Carmen Adamek
