Pte. Harry James Russell 69th Anti Tank Regiment Royal Artillery
My father, Jim Russell, aged 18, was captured at Dunkirk and ended up in a prisoner of war camp, Stalag XXB at Marienberg (now Malbork, Poland). While there, he was wounded in the back by a German guard. He was befriended by a medical orderly, Jack Parry from Liverpool, and a German nurse, Loni. Jack remained a life-long friend, and Loni visited him and his young family in England, after the war. Because of his injury, my father was repatriated in November 1943. Like so many others, he never talked about his war time experiences, but remained in touch with many of his comrades at annual reunions in Torrington, Devon.Susan Bentley
