He was taken prisoner 17th May 1940 until 9th May 1945. He was in Stalag XXa and XXb at Mariensburg, Poland. He spent most of his time working on the farms. My father was part of the long march. He was returned to the UK on the 10th May 1945 and discharged 30th April 1946.Norma Doody
Pte. Stanley Arthur Hayes 4th Btn. Royal East Kent Regiment (The Buffs)
Stanley Hayes was my father, born in Watford in 1918. He enlisted in the Army in WW2 and was sent to Malta along with the rest of the 4th Battalion, Royal East Kent Regiment (The Buffs) in October 1940. He spent a lot of his time filling-in bomb craters on the island's runways. In mid-1943 when the Italian surrender meant that Malta was safe, the Brigade that 4th Buffs were part of, was sent to Alexandria. From there they became part of the ill-fated attempt to capture and hold some of the former Italian islands in the Aegean.
The 4th Buffs were on Leros when my Dad was captured in November 1943. He was initially held in Stalag IV-G, Oschatz, before being moved to Stalag IV-B, Muhlberg. Interestingly, on his Register form his last camp is recorded aa IV-C, Wistritz, but his Identification Tag states IV-B. On both documents his PoW number is the same. He was released on 20th May 1945.

L/Cpl. Francis Arthur Simpson 4th Btn. Buffs (East Kent) Regiment
I began this quest when I decided to take a close look at my father's, Francis Simpson's, dog tags from Stalag 11A where he spent that last year of the war. This, together with many papers that my mother had saved, led me to his service record, then to here. I am now also researching my maternal father's record and my paternal father's records, both of whom survived the First World War.
Pte. Eric Earl Flisher 4th Btn. East Kent Regiment
I am trying to find more information about my granddad's time as a POW. According to the information I have from the ICRC, he was captured at Fecamp on 11th June 1940 and arrived at Stalag XXA on 9th July 1940 having come from a Dulag. He was then transferred to Stalag XXB on 1st March 1941 for the remainder of the war. His unit was 4th Battalion, East Kent (Buffs). His POW number was 13947.Matt
