Pte. Clifford Everett 1st btn East Surrey Regt. (d.27th Nov 1942)
My cousin Clifford was killed and buried in Tunisia. He died on 27th November 1942. Can anyone help me as I would like to know details of the conflict and what happened to him?Betty Newsome
L/Cpl. Norman Jellicoe 1st Btn. East Surrey Regiment (d.23rd April 1943)
Norman Jellicoe died during Battle for Longstop Hill and is buried in Medez al Bab cemetery. He was 21 years old. A great uncle of mine. Nan's brother.Donald Loga
Pte. Herbert William "Hector" Smyth 1st Battalion East Surrey Regiment
My grandfather, H.W. Hector Smyth, served as a Private with the 1st Battalion, East Surrey Regiment from 1939to 1946 in Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, Austria and Yugoslavia. In the 1980s he wrote a book-length memoir of his war years which has come in to my possession and I am now beginning to edit. It covers everything from enlistment and basic training to battle and post-war guard duty. It is amusing, moving, rather un-heroic, distinctly bawdy and full of tales of war life from a private's viewpoint. It is also beautifully well written, although I admit I may be biased. I am considering trying to get it published eventually. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who is interested in 1st Battalion, East Surreys in World War 2. One problem though is that although he mentions many friends and officers, he changed everyone's name so I cannot easily identify individuals.

Pte. H. C. Geelan 1st Btn. East Surrey Rgt
My father, Private H C Geelan, 1st Btn East Surrey Regiment, was wounded and taken prisoner near the village of Kerkhove on the Escault Canal in Belgium in May 1940. He spent time in a military hospital in Aachen before being transferred to a Stalag in Poland from which he was repatriated in a POW exchange in May(?)1943. I would be interested to hear from anyone who can provide any information on the actions in which his unit took part between 14th and 20th May 1940 or for any information on which POW camp he was in.Coote Green
