1st Special Service Brigade



   1st Special Service Brigade consisted of No. 3 Commando, No. 4 Commando, No. 6 Commando, No.45 (Royal Marine) Commando and No. 10 (Inter-Allied) Commando. The Brigade saw action in Normandy and in December 1944 was redesignated 1st Commando Brigade.

THE BRITISH ARMY IN NORTH-WEST EUROPE 1944-45: ASSAULT ON THE RHINE AND CAPTURE OF WESEL

The landing from Buffaloes of the 1st Battalion Cheshire Regiment, who landed on the afternoon of 24th of March 1945, in support of No.1 S.S Commando Brigade at Wesel on the Rhine. The bridge seen in background is the smashed railway bridge at Wesel. IWM (BU 2334)

Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home.

If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes.
