77th Indian Brigade in the Second World War 1939-1945

77th Indian Brigade

77th Indian Infantry Brigade, British Indian Army was formed in India in June 1942 and served in Burma. In March 1945, it was converted to become 77th Indian Parachute Brigade and transferred to 44th Airborne Division.
It was made up of:
13th Battalion, King's Regiment (Liverpool)
3rd Battalion, 2nd Gurkha Rifles
2nd Battalion, Burma Rifles
3rd Battalion, 6th Gurkha Rifles (1943 onwards)
1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers (1943 onwards)
1st Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment (1943 onwards)
3rd Battalion, 9th Gurkha Rifles January 1944–August 1944
12th Battalion, Nigeria Regiment April 1944–May 1944
7th Battalion, Nigeria Regiment April 1944–May 1944

Feb 1944 Chindit force preparations In early February 1944 preparations began for the 2nd Chindit Expedition. The Special Force or 3rd Indian Division as it was known consisted of the following units, which were split into Columns.
